Compression Stocking

What do compression stockings do?

Compression stockings are specialized hosiery that applies graduated pressure ( high pressure around the ankle and then gradually decreasing as the socks/stockings move towards knee/thigh).

The pressure these stockings put on your legs helps your blood vessels work better.

The veins get a boost pushing blood back to your heart.

This prevents swelling in feet and ankle area, prevents and treat spider and varicose veins. Because the blood keeps moving, it’s harder for it to pool in your veins and make a clot.

What are different types of compression stockings?

The compression stockings are classified mainly based on the pressure they exert measured in mm of Mercury ( Hg). There are different grades of compression stockings. Broadly classified as :

  • Non-Prescription grade Compression Stockings
The pressure is 10-15 mm Hg and 15-20 mm Hg
  • Prescription Grade Compression Stockings
The pressure range is 20-30 mm Hg and above.
